Musée d’Orsay

04/12/2010

The Museé D’Orsay has to be my favorite museum in the world (so far, anyway).  I thoroughly love the Impressionists and the collection here is impressive.  I read recently that the d’Orsay is now undergoing renovations that will enable them to display even more of this collection to the public by March 2011.  I can’t wait.

There is something about the openness of this former train station that takes my breath away each time I enter…or maybe it is the anticipation of all the wonderful art in which I am about to indulge….

Rather than share photographs I never took of fabulous paintings by van Gogh, Courbet, Toulouse-Lautrec, Gauguin, Renoir, Manet, Degas, Monet, Cézanne, Pissaro, Sisley (a personal favorite) and more, let’s look at some of the fascinating sculptures…

Maybe we should stop for a bite of lunch before we go on…

i always imagine how it would have been with the hustle and bustle of a train station. this is my favorite clock in the world – oh how i miss it.

using my museum pass I sailed in past the huge line and once inside like you I was amazed at the space and sheer volume of art…I know I didn’t see it all….each room was something I knew and loved.

and the fact that it was once a train station just makes it that more exciting…love it.

Twenty-two months have passed and I still have not been! Here’s the thing, though: I know deep in my bones this is going to be my favorite museum, too. I just *know* it. Part of me feels like as long as I have never set foot in the d’Orsay, my time in Paris can never end. Once I have seen it, then I have seen everything in Paris that I have really *wanted* to see, and maybe just like that –POUF! — it somehow will mean my time in Paris has expired.

This is, I know, ridiculous!! In fact, what I should be doing is *go* and then go back again and again. I’m silly, I know.

Anyways, even without having been I know it is a magical place. I think it’s just that, too — what if I go and decide it is not a special as I think I will be??

LOL — I feel like I am contemplating losing my virginity. I just need to DO it, huh.

    Anyone wanna go with??
